DAHLONEGA - New military students at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega will start six days of intense physical and mental training called FROG Week, or Freshman Recruit Orientation Group Week, starting Aug. 10.
Students are engaged in a host of physical activities including an obstacle course, low and high ropes obstacles, a leadership reaction
course, rappelling cliff and Drill & Ceremony training, all to build teamwork and decision-making skills.
FROG Week acclimates the new cadets to a leadership-training program that started 131 years ago at NGCSU, predating the federal ROTC program.
More than 300 new military freshmen will arrive on campus for FROG Week, which culminates in the famous Crown Mountain graduation run on Aug. 15.
NGCSU enrolls more than 4,500 students, 700 of whom participate in the Corps of Cadets. Upperclassmen hone their leadership skills by preparing and overseeing the six days of training.
