GAINESVILLE - A movie that examines the controversial 2000 presidential election will be screened in Gainesville next week by the Hall County Chapter of Georgia Women for Kerry.
"Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election" will be shown Tuesday night at Hall County Democratic Party Headquarters Tuesday night.
A spokeswoman for the group bringing it to Gainesville says it documents widespread voting irregularities in Florida during and prior to the election.
According to Francine Dibben, the most significant is the revelation by ChoicePoint/Database Technologies, the company hired to purge felons from the Florida voter lists, that 95,000 names were purged, 91,000 of whom were innocent. Of these, 50% were African-Americans.
Dibben said in one scene, the filmmakers freeze-frame a 'protest' against the ballot recount, identifying participants as staff members of Republican elected officials.
