Macon man charged with kidnapping

<p>A 23-year-old Macon man has been indicted on charges accusing him of kidnapping his estranged girlfriend and shooting at an off-duty policeman.</p><p>Michael Antonio Cornelius was indicted by a Bibb County grand jury Tuesday on charges of kidnapping with bodily injury, burglary, three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.</p><p>Cornelius is accused of forcing LaShonda Harris into the passenger's seat of her car on May 12 and threatening to kill her. During the seven-hour ordeal, Cornelius drove her to a cemetery and showed her a hole where he planned to bury her, a sheriff's report said.</p><p>A few days later, Harris and her uncle, Macon police officer Kelvin Harris, went to her home to pick up some clothes. But when they entered the apartment, Cornelius was there and had a gun, authorities said.</p><p>Kelvin Harris was able to get himself and his niece out of the apartment.</p><p>Shortly afterward, police surrounded the apartment and tried to make contact inside. By the time SWAT team members entered, Cornelius was gone.</p><p>Cornelius turned himself in to authorities a few weeks later.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x28664c0)</p>
