GAINESVILLE - Sixty-eight athletes from northeast Georgia who have achieved national
recognition have been chosen as the first inductees into the Northeast Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
The hall of fame will be a part of
the Northeast Georgia History Center in Gainesville, which opened this spring.
Inductions are planned on an annual basis and a committee, chaired by Phil Jackson, retired longtime sports editor of The Times, has been appointed to consider future nominations.
The initial induction ceremony will be held August 28. The sports represented by this first group of athletes are baseball, football,
basketball, auto racing, soccer, golf, weightlifting, and equestrian.
