Flowery Branch's O'Connell 11th at Le Mans

LE MANS, FRANCE - Corvette Racing (USA), with Johnny O&#39;Connell of Flowery Branch at the wheel, finished eleventh overall Sunday - second in the GTS class - in this year&#39;s 24 Hours of Le Mans.<br> <br> The race ended at 10 a.m. EDT.<br> <br> According to speedtv.com, Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta and Jan Magnussen won a classic race-long battle for Corvette in the GTS class with the Prodrive Ferrari team. The Corvettes eventually finished first and second in class and sixth and eighth overall. Ron Fellows, Johnny O&#39;Connell and Max Papis survived two visits to the wall on their way to runner-up slot.<br> <br> O&#39;Connell&#39;s team finished 345 laps of the 24-hour race - 30 fewer than the winner, Audi Sport Team Joest. Audis captured the first three spots in the 50-car field.<br> <br> Braselton-based Panoz Racing had two teams entered. One finished 29th and the other 44th. <br> <br> Owner Don Panoz, who also owns Road Atlanta and the Chateau Elan Winery and Resort, told www.lemans.org he was happy to be at Le Mans again, even though his cars were not performing up to expectations.
