Physicist Eugene Booth dies at 92

<p>Funeral services were planned for Thursday in Savannah for physicist Eugene Theodore Booth, a physicist who was recognized for scientific and engineering contributions to the U.S. nuclear programs in the early days of atomic energy.</p><p>Booth, 92, of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., and formerly of Cherokee County in suburban Atlanta, died Saturday. He constructed the Columbia University cyclotron and worked on the Manhattan Project. The Atomic Energy Commission cited him for his achievements in nuclear physics.</p><p>In guides to Cherokee County, Booth is noted as one of two Rhodes scholars from the county. The other was former Secretary of State Dean Rusk.</p><p>The graveside service was to take place at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.</p><p>___</p><p>Information from: Constitution</p>
