Three sentenced to life in beating death

<p>Three people have been sentenced to life in prison for abducting and killing a man in their neighborhood last summer.</p><p>Brothers Desmond and Unree Carr, who had a history of using violence to settle scores, and neighbor Lindsey Humphrey pleaded guilty Tuesday in the Aug. 17 death of Kareem Cowan, 20.</p><p>Prosecutors contend that a group of eight, who all knew Cowan, fed off each other's violence for an hour. According to statements given to police, the group kicked, punched and stomped on Cowan, urinated and poured gasoline on him and finally left him dying in a wooded area.</p><p>Desmond Carr, 17, Unree Carr, 21, and Humphrey, 21, were sentenced by Superior Court Judge Robert Mallis for murder and kidnapping. Under current guidelines, they would not be considered for parole for at least 14 years.</p><p>Five others, including the Carrs' sister Lashundra Shenae Carr, are awaiting trial.</p><p>___</p><p>Information from: Constitution</p>
