ATLANTA - A Democratic state representative from northeast Georgia lawmaker has introduced a proposal of her own that would ban gay marriage, and has taken a swipe at Republican legislation covering the issue.
In putting her bill in the hopper, Jeannette Jamieson of Toccoa accused Republicans of penning a constitutional amendment that is legally flawed.
Jamieson was one of only 50 members of the house who voted last week against the GOP proposal which fell three votes shy of the number necessary for passage.
Jamieson's bill would delete a key provision of the GOP proposal which would prohibit the state from recognizing same-sex marriges performed in other states. Jamieson says that part of the GOP proposal would not stand up in court.
