Patriotism, peace rallies mark 1st anniversary of Iraq war

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The first anniversary of the War with Iraq will be observed in Gainesville and Dahlonega Saturday by groups with differing views of the war.

The day will begin in Dahlonega with a salute to American patriotism - a "show of appreciation" to the service men and women of the armed services - complete with a parade which begins at 11 a.m.

At 6:30 Saturday night in Dahlonega, a Candlelight Vigil for Peace is planned to remember U.S. and other armed forces members and civilians who have been killed or wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.

At noon Saturday, in downtown Gainesville, a peace vigil will be held.
