BRISTOL, TENNESSEE - NASCAR has confiscated cars driven by Jamie McMurray and Larry Foyt, and Foyt will miss this weekend's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
A NASCAR spokesman says the cars will be held indefinitely and taken to NASCAR's research and development facility in North Carolina for study. Problems were found in McMurray's Number-42 Dodge and Foyt's Number-14 Dodge during the preliminary inspection for this weekend's race. McMurray's car had too large a back window, and Foyt's roof did not meet specifications.
McMurray has a backup car, which has never been on track. Foyt's backup car is set up for superspeedways and could not be used on the half-mile Bristol oval, so he has to withdraw from this weekend's events.
