Perdue appoints Republican to be DeKalb district attorney

<p>Gov. Sonny Perdue has appointed a Republican federal prosecutor to fill the unexpired term of the district attorney in DeKalb County, the most heavily Democratic county in Georgia.</p><p>The Republican governor on Thursday named Jeffrey Brickman, an assistant U.S. attorney in Atlanta, to serve the remaining 11 months left in the post vacated by J. Tom Morgan, who resigned Jan. 31 to return to private law practice.</p><p>Brickman, 42, was an assistant DeKalb district attorney from 1989 to 1997 under Bob Wilson and Morgan, both Democrats.</p><p>Brickman, who lives in Dunwoody in the suburban Atlanta county, said he intended to run for re-election as DeKalbs district attorney in November. He was endorsed by both Wilson and Morgan.</p><p>I dont care if he runs as a Democrat or Republican or Martian, Ill support him, Morgan said.</p><p>Three Democrats have announced plans to run for Morgans job: DeKalb Solicitor Gwen Keyes, former Assistant District Attorney Keith Adams and Antje Kingma, a former assistant district attorney in Fulton County. The three also sought the temporary appointment from Perdue.</p><p>Brickmans appointment will be effective on Tuesday.</p>
