GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville and Johnson girls basketball team were ranked in the top five in the final regular season gabasketball.net Class AAA girls poll released Monday.
The Lady Red Elephants (24-3) won its fourth straight Region 7-AAA title last week beating Fannin County in the finals.
The Lady Knights (21-7) were fifth after finishing third in the region tournament.
Four of the top 15 teams will be in action this weekend in the first round of the state tournament at Gainesville High School.
The Lady Elephants will play Carrollton at 7 p.m. Friday while the Johnson girls will play No. 9 Cartersville at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Flowery Branch girls will play Haralson County at 4 p.m. Friday and the Fannin County girls will play No. 14 Cass at 7 p.m.
