Lady Falcons look for first state tourney win

GAINESVILLE - The Flowery Branch girls basketball team will get its first taste of playoff basketball Friday when the Lady Falcons (18-9) tip-off the first round of the Class AAA tournament against Haralson County at 4 p.m. Gainesville High School.

The Lady Falcons lost both games in the region seeding games last but both losses came to top 5 teams - No. 1 Gainesville and No. 5 Johnson.

The Lady Falcons are led by senior Kristina Tyler, junior Beth Adcock and freshman Courtney newton and Chelsea Fandl.

East Hall, the defending Class AAA boys champs, and Gainesville, the defending Class AAA girls champs, also will begin their quest for back-to-back titles Friday at Gainesville High School.

The Lady Elephants will play Carrollton at 7 p.m. while East Hall will play Villa Rica at 8:30 p.m. Friday. The Gainesville boys will play Carrollton at 5:30 p.m.

In action Saturday, the Johnson girls will play Cartersville at 4 p.m.; the Johnson boys will play LaGrange at 5:30 p.m.; the Fannin County girls will play Cass at 7 p.m. and the White County boys will play Cartersville at 8:30 p.m.

The winners will move on the Sweet 16 of the state tournament. The losers will look to next season.
