Georgia's Gibson making plans for Senior Bowl

By The Associated Press

Georgia players Fred Gibson, Reggie Brown, David Greene and David Pollack have been invited to play in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 29 in Mobile, Ala., Gibson said Thursday.

Though official invitations for the all-star game have not been announced, Gibson said he already is looking forward to the chance to impress NFL scouts and coaches in the game.

Pollack hinted he may not play in the game.

"I don't know," Pollack said, wincing as he rubbed his jaw. "I need to take my wisdom teeth out. They're killing me."

While Gibson already is making firm plans to work with a trainer in Arizona before playing in the Senior Bowl, Greene sounded less sure of his schedule after Saturday's Outback Bowl.

"I guess once the game is over we'll be thinking about it then," Greene said.

"I guess we're all kind of blind to what's going to happen. You just go with the flow. It's different not knowing what you're about to do next."

Gibson set a career high with 45 receptions for 759 yards and six touchdowns. His career total of 2,842 yards receiving ranks second in Georgia history.

"It's been a long four years for me," Gibson said. "I had fun. I have a lot of memories."

___

BOWLED OVER: Georgia players give the Outback high marks for the bag of gifts given this year. The NCAA allows bowls to give up to 125 bags of gifts, each valued at no more than $350, for players for each team. The Outback's bag included an I-pod, a portable CD player and a watch.

The winning selection of gifts reminded Georgia defensive tackle Kedric Golston of a less-hip gift selection by the Sugar Bowl committee two years ago.

"In the Sugar Bowl they gave us a quilt," Golston said, smiling. "I don't know what you give 19 and 20 year-olds a quilt for. For the most part bowls give great gifts."

___

LUNCH TALK: Georgia coach Mark Richt and Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez each spoke at a bowl luncheon attended by about 1,100, including the full rosters from both teams, Thursday.

"I think it's going to be a great one; I think it's a super matchup," Richt said.

Alvarez is still recovering from a broken right foot he suffered while playing golf at Augusta National this month. Alvarez is wearing a protective boot, but he said he has been told he won't need surgery.

___

FOR STARTERS: Georgia defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder said his starting outside linebackers will be Derrick White, who will share time with Arnold Harrison, and Jarvis Jackson, who will share time with Danny Verdun Wheeler.
