DELAND, FLORIDA - James Odoms scored 19 points to lead Mercer to an 89-76 win over Stetson in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener for both Thursday night.<br>

Odoms led five players in double figures for Mercer (3-1, 1-0), who matched last year's total with one conference road win. Will Emerson had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Bears and Wesley Duke added 17 points.<br>

Jacob Skogen also had 15 points for Mercer while Ross Alacqua added 12 points off the bench.<br>

The Bears trailed only after E.J. Gordon's basket opened the scoring. After a jumper by Emerson tied it at 2, Stetson never led again. Mercer hit 12-of-28 shots from behind the arc while Stetson hit just five 3-pointers on the night.<br>

Stetson trailed 37-33 at the half and got within two points when Borislav Djordjic opened the second-half with a layup, but that was as close as Stetson got the rest of the way.<br>

Djordjic and Karl Hollingsworth each scored 14 points to lead the Hatters.
