CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA - Gary Forbes had 21 points and J.R. Reynolds scored 18 as No. 19 Virginia broke open near the end with a 20-10 run to defeat Furman 79-67 on Wednesday night.<br>

Elton Brown contributed 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavaliers (7-1).<br>

Quan Prowell led Furman (3-4) with 14 points.<br>

The Cavaliers, who suffered an 81-79 loss at Iowa State on Monday night, led just 59-54 with 7:44 left in the game before Devin Smith ignited the final spurt with a jumper with 6:31 remaining.<br>

The Cavaliers built a lead of 70-58 when Reynolds caught any alley-oop pass from Sean Singletary with 4:23 left in the contest.<br>

The Paladins briefly cut the margin to eight but Reynolds hit a jumper, a 3-pointer and then fed Forbes for a layup as Virginia gained a 77-64 advantage with 2:09 remaining. The Cavaliers then made it 79-64.<br>

Virginia held a 38-37 lead at halftime, secured when Brown made two free throws four seconds before the buzzer.
