UniCare announces Medicaid call center in Savannah

<p>UniCare Life and Health Insurance Company announced Thursday plans to open a new call center in Savannah that will employ 75 workers by the end of 2005.</p><p>UniCare is a subsidiary of California-based WellPoint Health Networks, the nation's second-largest publicly traded health care company.</p><p>UniCare's Savannah call center will handle claims and benefit questions from Medicaid recipients in managed health plans in Virginia and West Virginia. It plans to open the center with 25 employees next summer, later expanding to 75 workers.</p><p>Company spokesman Charlie Harman said UniCare is bidding to manage health claims for Medicaid patients in other southern states, which could boost the Savannah center's total employment to 200 workers in 2006.</p>
