International Paper expanding in Memphis

<p>International Paper is moving one of its divisional headquarters to Memphis, bringing in 300 jobs, the company says.</p><p>Moving the Forest Products Division headquarters from Savannah, Ga., will transfer 200 management positions and create 100 administrative jobs.</p><p>The move is scheduled to begin after the first of the year and wrap up in late summer.</p><p>International Paper Inc. moved its core management operations to Memphis in 1987. The company has 3,000 employees in Memphis, down from 3,200 last year.</p><p>The company has gone through several layoffs and cut its total work force to 83,000, down from 113,0000 three years ago.</p><p>Vice president Dennis Colley said the new move to Memphis will better coordinate management.</p><p>"It's going to enhance communication between the groups, and it's going to strengthen our ability to serve customers because we're working together," Colley said.</p>
