SNELLVILLE - Brookwood's football players talked about avenging last year's first round lost. Instead they repeated it. The Broncos lost their state playoff opener for the second straight season, falling 21-3 to Cherokee.
From 1987 to 2002, Brookwood lost in the first round of the playoffs only twice, but have matched that in two years with this year's loss joining a 2003 defeat at Harrison.
All year, offensive problems and special teams woes doomed Brookwood, which rushed for only 41 yards on 26 carries. Quarterback Bradley Saylors, who completed 9-for-20 passes for 70 yards and an interception, finished with 14 carries for minus-17 yards.
