GAINESVILLE - The U.S. Forest Service and a number of other agencies have completed the purchase of more than 350 acres near the Lumpkin-Dawson county line which will be protected from development.
The Little/Glover tract, located near Springer Mountain, was originally identified as a priority more than 30 years ago for the Appalachian Trail Acquisition Project.
Forest service spokeswoman Karen McKenzie says the purchase was completed in August in cooperation with the Appalachian Trail Conference, Georgia Appalachian Trail Club, Georgia Land Trust Service Center and other agencies.
