SUWANEE - Gwinnett County Police said Friday they will not file charges in a New Year's Day accident that claimed the life of a Suwanee woman.
Barbara Drummond, 47, was pinned between a shelving unit in her garage and her open vehicle door. The victim's 12 year old daughter told police she started the vehicle, a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor, while her mother was smoking a cigarette outside of it.
"She put the car into reverse. She said that she had her foot on the brake, however, started to move in reverse, and the mother was pinned," Gwinnett Police Corporal Dan Huggins said.
"From what we understand, it's not uncommon for this girl to back the vehicle out of the garage for the parents," Huggins added.
Drummond died at Gwinnett Medical Center. The accident happened about 11:45 a.m. Thursday.
"There will be no charges due to the circumstances of it being an accident, as well as since it occurred on private property, no actual traffic laws were violated," Huggins said.
