GAINESVILLE - With Gainesville girls basketball standout Tasha Humphrey nursing a sore ankle, sophomore Kita Waller has decided to put the Class AAA No. 2-ranked Lady Elephants on her shoulders.
For the third straight game Waller led Gainesville in scoring, this time pouring in 26 points in a 62-35 win over South Forsyth Saturday night.
She had 26 in a win over West Hall on Tuesday and shared with Humphrey Friday night with 11 points in a win over East Hall.
"We're having to limit Tasha's minutes a little and Kita has really picked up her game," Gainesville coach Manson Hill said.
The Lady Elephants (13-3) held South Forsyth to just 10 first-half points opening with a 16-5 first quarter and then running out to a 37-10 halftime lead.
Gainesville led by as many as 37 in the second half.
Humphrey finished with 11 points against South Forsyth.
