GAINESVILLE - While it's not surprising that White County sits atop the Region 7-AAA North boys standings, who shares the top spot with them is.
Pickens and White County both are 2-0 after the first week of subregion play. The Warriors (11-3) and Pickens (7-10) are both 2-0. The Warriors opened subregion play with a big win over rival North Hall.
The Trojans (6-6) and Chestatee (2-10) sit at 1-1 while Fannin (3-13) and Gilmer (1-13) are 0-2.
Meanwhile, in the South standings, Class AAA No. 1-ranked East Hall (13-2) is 2-0 after wins over Flowery Branch and No. 4 Gainesville. Seventh-ranked Johnson (9-5) is third at 1-0. The Falcons are 0-1 and West Hall (9-6) is 0-2.
The Spartans have had a tough beginning opening on the road at both Gainesville and Johnson and play No. 1 East Hall on Friday.
Two of the bigger matchups will take place Tuesday night when East Hall plays host to Johnson in the South and White County travels to Pickens in the North. Gainesville travels to Flowery Branch in South subregion action.
In other North action, North Hall plays host to Gilmer while Fannin travels to Chestatee.
On Friday, West Hall is facing an 0-3 start unless it can find a way to beat East Hall, which has not lost to a Region 7-AAA team this year (5-0). Johnson plays host to improved Flowery Branch in the other South game.
In the North on Friday, Chestatee plays at White County; Pickens travels to North hall and Gilmer plays host to Fannin in a battle of winless teams in subregion play.
