GAINESVILLE - Officials from Gainesville Bank & Trust recently presented Gainesville College with the initial installment towards the purchase of equipment to create a "smart classroom" for the school.
The Gainesville College "Smart Classroom" Project was launched to provide students with a state-of-the-art learning environment to improve their academic success, according to college officials.
A "smart classroom" is equipped with a computer that is interfaced with a ceiling mounted overhead projection system, and teachers are able to process custom designed interactive programs and connect to the Internet to introduce significant up-to-date information into classroom discussions.
Advanced "smart classrooms" interface the computer with a smart board, which is an electronic chalkboard on which information can be saved to the computer and loaded into a class folder on the Web for later retrieval. Students can then review class notes from the actual lecture, allowing them more time to discuss and understand topics in class without spending their time copying notes.
