ATHENS - Louis Williams and Mike Mercer, teammates at Class AAAAA No. 1-ranked South Gwinnett High School, plan to stay in the same backcourt for the Georgia Bulldogs.<br>

The star guards announced Friday they will sign with Georgia for the 2005-06 season, making their decision far in advance of the November early signing period.<br>

The 6-foot-3 Williams is considered one of the top shooting guards in the country among high school juniors, averaging more than 27 points a game. Mercer is the Comets' 6-4 point guard.<br>

``They decided they're going to Georgia and they're going to put that place on the map, big-time,'' South Gwinnett coach Roger Fleetwood said. ``They could have gone to a more established program, but they like the challenge.''<br>

The Bulldogs, who lose four senior starters after this season, already have signed two guards for next season Brookwood High's Channing Toney and Sundiata Gaines of Archbishop Molloy in New York.
