EHHS senior tapped for national forum

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - A senior at East Hall High School is one of only 400 high school juniors and seniors from across the country chosen to participate in a forum on U.S. national security this year.

Adam Strzemienski of Gainesville was recently selected to be a part of the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy (NYLF) February 3-8 in Washington, D.C.

Students were chosen on the basis of their "academic achievement and interest in a career related to national security."

Strzemienski said Monday he has always thought of a career in the military or other defense/intelligence work. He said the 9-11 terrorist attacks made him think more and more about such a career.

The curriculum for the Forum on Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy is based on actual world events, according to NYLF executive director Donna Snyder. This, she says, allows participants to "learn from the examples set by previous generations of leaders."

Throughout the forum, the participants will examine how the U.S. plans for peace and prepares for crisis.
