DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA - Nancy Lopez is the unanimous choice for the U.S. captain for the 2005 Solheim Cup matches between the U.S. and Europe.
A panel of LPGA officials and former captains made the selection Monday. Lopez, who is from Albany, played in the first Solheim Cup in 1990, but never made another team.
A Hall of Famer with 48 victories, she stopped playing a full schedule two years ago. Lopez said she is eager to win back the cup.
Europe defeated the United States last year in Sweden by the largest margin ever. The United States has never lost at home.
The 2005 matches will be played September 9th-through-11th at Crooked Stick in Carmel, Indiana.
