Bartik's maverick status makes him ideal for West Georgia

By
CARROLLTON - Quarterback Bo Bartik's maverick quality makes him a good choice to lead West Georgia this season. It gives him a stubborn streak that is needed on a team entering the 2003 season with much inexperience and uncertainty.

The Braves, who open Saturday at Presbyterian College, were picked to finish eleventh out of 12 teams by the Gulf South Conference Coaches Poll.

But for Bartik, who was around for the seven-game losing streak that ended last season, there is nothing this year's team can't accomplish.

Bartik was part of a tree-man rotation last year along with Corry Strange, who has since graduated, and Lucas McMichen, who will be his backup this season. In nine games, he was the most efficient of the three, completing 36-of-74 passes for 462 yards and six touchdowns.

Bartik was also the Braves third-leading rusher with 172 yards and two touchdowns. His scrambling ability and a strong right arm earned him the starting job in the spring.
