GAINESVILLE - Three incumbents and one challenger had signed up as of mid-morning Tuesday for this year's Gainesville city elections.
Veteran councilman Bob Hamrick was among those turning in his papers, as was Tom Nichols, who declared his intention to challenge Hamrick for his Ward 2 post.
Also qualifying were city school board incumbents Lee Highsmith and Frank Harben.
Candidates have until 4:30 Wednesday to qualify for the Gainesville elections.
Qualifying is also taking place in other cities and towns in Hall County; the qualifying deadline varies with some keeping the books open until Friday.
