SAVANNAH - Monte Anthony raced 50 yards for the game's only touchdown midway through the first quarter and it was enough to give Norfolk State a 7-3 victory over Savannah State Saturday night. <br>

The Spartans (1-1) lost an opportunity to added another Anthony score in the third quarter, but the speedy freshman's apparent 17-yard scoring run was nullfied by a holding penalty. <br>

Savannah State (0-3) got its only scor on a 28-yard field goal by Kyle McCrery in the third quarter. <br>

The field goal was set up by Ontreal Bowers' 28-yard run and a 27-yard pass from Clyde Tullis to Khalil Hasan that gave the Tigers a first down on the Norfolk 8. Three inside runs and a delay of game penalty put the Tigers on the 12, forcing them to go for the field goal. <br>

The Spartans got inside the Savannah State 10 twice in the second quarter, but failed to score.
