Poultry income down in Georgia in 2002

ATHENS - The total farm value of poultry and eggs produced in Georgia decreased 18 percent for the 2002 production year, according to the Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service.

The value of production from broilers - a key component in the poultry industry in our area - totaled $1.9 billion, down 20 percent from 2001.

The value of production of all eggs was $356 million, a decrease of three percent from a year earlier.

And, the sale of chickens, excluding broilers, totaled 16.9 million birds, accounting for sales of $10.5 million.
