Who Will Answer The Door?

Three's company, too."

Those were the lyrics to "Three's Company," the jiggly ABC sitcom from the seventies that made a household name out of one who used to be just a versatile comic character actor.

In his last series, his triumphant comeback, also on ABC, "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter," each episode opens with Ritter actually opening the door, sneering at his daughter's aforementioned suitor-du-jour.

No one expected "8 Simple Rules" to take off. Since "Three's Company," John Ritter had endured a string of unexceptional programs, including the dismal "Hearts Afire" and the inspired but overlooked "Hooperman." Plus the eight-word title
