TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA - Eastern Michigan withdrew from the University of Pittsburgh Holiday Hoops Classic on Monday, leaving Florida State without a first-round opponent.
The Seminoles are still guaranteed four games in the exempt tournament, with two home games Dec. 16 and 18 preceding two games at Pittsburgh's Peterson Events Center on Dec. 20 and 22.
``The organizers are searching for a team to complete the tournament field and fill the hole left on our schedule,'' Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton said. ``At this date, we don't have any idea who that team might be. We have been told that it could be a lower Division I or Division II team.''
Joining FSU and Pittsburgh in the seven-day tournament are Chicago State, Murray State and Wagner. The schools will play a round-robin format.
Because the event is an exempt tournament, Florida State is able to play four games with only one counting toward the NCAA limit of 27 regular-season games. FSU will play 30 games this season.
