Clemson asks for waiver for Crosby

By
CLEMSON, SOUTH CAROLINA - Clemson has asked the Atlantic Coast Conference to grant a medical waiver and allow Roscoe Crosby to play this season.

Associate athletic director for student development Phil Grayson says the school sent the medical absence waiver to the ACC office Monday.

Grayson thought Crosby's chances with the waiver were good. ``I'm confident that we've put together the best case on his behalf that we could,'' he said.

Crosby, a two-sport star coming from Union High, did not complete fall 2002 and spring 2003 semesters. The waiver asks the ACC to allow Crosby to play because an injury kept him from attending class.

Crosby had elbow surgery in June 2002 and withdrew from school in October on an NCAA medical leave. Crosby, who signed a $1.75 million contract with the Kansas City Royals out of high school, concentrated on baseball during the spring.

However, he returned to Clemson to take a summer class.

If Crosby's waiver is not granted, he has to finish 24 credit hours by the end of next spring to play in the fall of 2004.

Grayson expected to hear from the ACC within 10 days.
