Mall of Georgia jumper dies

FLOWERY BRANCH - A 14-year-old Flowery Branch boy has died of injuries he suffered in a three-story jump at the Mall of Georgia August 14.

Funeral services are scheduled Monday for John Guenther, who died Thursday, one week after jumping from the third-story food court at the mall in what police have classified a suicide.

Guenther was a Flowery Branch High School freshman who played football, wrestled, and ran track.

In November 2001, a 17-year-old Gainesville boy jumped over the railing from a bench in front of the movie theater at the mall. Douglas Alan Lyle died at the scene near the information desk on the first floor.
