Jackson commission OKs beer, wine sales

JEFFERSON - A divided Jackson County Commission has okayed the sale of beer and wine in unincorporated parts of the county.

The 3-2 vote followed discussions at meetings in recent weeks in which large numbers of people called on the commission to reject the proposal.

Commissioners Tony Beatty and Harold Fletcher voted against the ordinance which is effective immediately and requires that seventy percent of revenues received by any beer and wine outlet must come from other sources.
