GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Police have identified the man hit and killed by a car on Atlanta Highway a week ago as 52-year-old Mack Fains of Gainesville.
Lt. Gary Entrekin said Saturday morning the composite sketch of Fains, which was issued Wednesday, provided the break in the case.
Lt. Entrekin says friends of Fains recognized him from the sketch and his wife, in turn, positively identified his body.
He said no missing persons report had been filed because, according to Fains' wife, she thought he had gone to Atlanta to visit relatives.
