ROSWELL - Luke List surprised the field by leading the qualifying in U.S. Open sectionals, and no one was more surprised than the 18-year-old from Ringgold, Ga.
``It hasn't sunk in yet,'' List said Tuesday after scoring a pair of 68s to finish at 8-under-par 136 for 36 holes. ``It's going to be fun, that's all I can tell you.''
List, who plans to play at Vanderbilt, finished one stroke ahead of PGA Tour pro Billy Andrade, the other Open qualifier at Ansley Golf Club's Settindown Creek course north of Atlanta.
Andrade shot a 68 and 69 to join List ahead of the field of 40 others vying for the Open field at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois June 12-15.
Four others, Kevin Durkin of Dunwoody, Ga. (72-68-140); Roger Rowland of Ocala, Fla. (67-74-141); Brandt Snedeker of Nashville, Tenn. (70-71-141), and David Dyer of Springdale, Ark. (72-70-142) are alternates.
Thunderstorms threatened all day.
``I didn't take my rain pants off until the last hole. I think I lost 10 pounds,'' said the 38-year-old Andrade, who qualified for his 11th U.S. Open.
