RICHMOND, VIRGINIA - The NCAA is taking a hands-off approach to the Atlantic Coast Conference's expansion plans.

President Myles Brand says the organization has no authority to intervene in a school's right to pick its own conference affiliation.

However, Brand offered to have the NCAA assist in any way it could to help resolve the matter if it was invited by all parties.

Virginia Governor Mark Warner had called on the NCAA or an outside mediator to get involved in the ACC's expansion plans in order to avoid a protracted and costly legal battle.
Five Big East schools have filed suit against conference partners Miami and Boston College in an effort to get them and Syracuse from joining the ACC.
