The Southern 500, NASCAR's oldest superspeedway race, is changing dates to make room for a second Winston Cup race at California Speedway. <br>

NASCAR says the Southern 500, a traditional Labor Day weekend event in Darlington, South Carolina, will be run in November, the week before the season finale, beginning next year. <br>
<br>
The California track outside of Los Angeles will take the holiday weekend spot for its new Pop Secret 500. <br>
<br>
To keep the schedule at 36 races, NASCAR is taking away North Carolina Speedway's fall date.
