OMAHA, NEBRASKA - Stanford opened the College World Series with an 8-0 win over South Carolina. Cardinal starting pitcher John Hudgins shut down the Gamecocks on two hits over the first eight innings. <br> <br> South Carolina also was shut out in last year&#39;s CWS opener before finishing at the tournament runner-up. <br> <br> Ryan Garko drove in three runs. <br> <br> Stanford will next play the winner of Friday night&#39;s game between Cal State-Fullerton and LSU on Sunday. South Carolina will play Friday evening&#39;s loser in an elimination game on Sunday.
