TIFTON - Green Bay Packers defensive end Joe Johnson has waived his right to an arraignment hearing and pleaded innocent to a marijuana possession charge.
The arraignment was scheduled for Friday before State Court Solicitor Bob Richbourg, but Johnson's attorney, Max Richardson of Norcross, entered the plea earlier.
Richbourg said the ten-year NFL veteran will have an opportunity to file motions and request a jury or bench trial on July 17.
Police say Johnson was charged with marijuana possession after a deputy saw his car stopped in a highway turning lane May 22. Authorities said he posted a $1,625 cash bond and was released from the Tift County Jail the same day.
But, the 30-year-old Johnson, of St. Louis, denies being arrested. He acknowledged being ``in the area'' that day, but suggested someone else was driving his car.
