Report: Authority to take bids on Thunder Road

DAWSONVILLE - The authority that oversees Thunder Road U.S.A. in Dawsonville has reportedly voted to accept bids for the building and property in full or in part. <br> <br> The home to Georgia&#39;s Racing Hall of Fame is in default on its bank notes to the tune of nearly $10 million, according to the Dawson County News and Advertiser. The newspaper reports that about 75 percent of the loan is guaranteed by the United States Department of Agriculture with the rest in the hands of local banks.<br> <br> Sealed bids are expected to be taken for 90 days beginning July second.<br> <br> The bidding process is expected to buy Thunder Road the 90 days or more to continue looking for ways to move forward. <br> <br> The Dawson County/Dawsonville Joint Development Authority retained the right to reject all bids and to examine specific uses any buyer would have. <br> <br> The 40,000-square-foot state-of-the-art museum and racing attraction recently celebrated its one year anniversary.<br> <br> Thunder Road has shaved several thousand dollars from the racing hall of fame and officials hope to continue pursing other ways to handle the debt.
