GAINESVILLE - The customer call center for Charter Communications in Gainesville has closed, resulting in the layoffs of eight people.
Gainesville manager Judy Drennen says this is a result of Charter centralizing its call centers to Greenville, South Carolina. The local call center officially closed Friday.
Charter provides cable TV service to most of Hall County and also offers Internet service.
Drennan adds that all other departments still remain in Gainesville and all can be contacted by customers who walk into the Thompson Bridge Road office.
Otherwise, telephone calls will be directed through the toll free number that is posted on monthly statements.
