CHARLOTTE - The Dale Earnhardt Incorporated NASCAR team has fired driver Steve Park, who was the first full-time Winston Cup driver hired by the late Dale Earnhardt.
The team has hired Jeff Green on an interim basis. Green was fired Monday by Richard Childress Racing. He'd driven a Busch Series car for Earnhardt in 1995.
Park has had a tumultuous two years since Earnhardt's death. Six months after Earnhardt was killed in a wreck during the Daytona 500, Park was seriously injured in an accident at Darlington. After returning, he struggled through poor performances. He won a pole just two weeks ago at California Speedway, but wrecked during the race and finished 41st. He also wrecked this past weekend at Richmond and is 33rd in the standings.
