Are Dixie Chicks Really "The Victims"

The Dixie Chicks are scheduled to hold a concert in Greenville, S. C., this week and it is sold out. But ... the announcement of the concert and sale of the tickets came some time ago, and at that time the Dixie Chicks were opening their mouth to sing, not to insult the President of the United States and take a stand alongside the anti-war Hollywood liberals.

It seems to me these somewhat childish girls just refuse to understand why we country music fans feel we have been betrayed. Apparently they have the feeling it is what THEY think that is important in this world, not what their fans believe. So, the Dixie Chicks have started a major public relations campaign, and the theme seems to be that THEY are the victims. When Diane Sawyer interviewed them, Natalie Maines implied they are the victims of the "far right" - sounding for the world like Hillary Clinton and her "right wing conspiracy" comments. Then the three Dixie Chicks posed nude for the front cover of Entertainment Magazine with words written on their bodies they claim have been aimed at them like "traitor" and "shut up", trying to communicate that it is terrible for people to treat them that way. I don't know what taking all their clothes off had to do with it, but that is what they did. Most of us who do political commentary get those kinds of comments with our clothes on.

These are entertainers, but when they use their celebrity status to try and sell their liberal political views, it seems to me we have every right ... maybe even the obligation ... to reject both their political view AND their entertainment.

This is Gordon Sawyer, and may the wind always be at your back.
