GAINESVILLE - Mar-Jac Poultry has dropped its lawsuit against Hall County - apparently ending its controversial efforts to locate a feed mill in the county.
The action comes just days after a Hall County Superior Court judge issued a ruling against Mar-Jac.
Doug Carnes, vice president of poultry operations, said Mar-Jac is now looking outside Hall County for a site for the feed mill.
"We need to get on with a feed mill of our own that would handle the total tonnage," Carnes said. "With the timetable we're own, we've got to move ahead."
However, Carnes would not disclose the location of the potential sites.
"We've got to take some action on the land that we're looking at in the other county quickly or that land may be removed from the market or bought by another purchaser," he said.
Mar-Jac has been trying for two years to locate a feed mill in Hall County, first in the city of Lula and then in an unincorporated area near Lula.
It began searching for a Hall County site after plans to locate in Jackson County were rejected.
