'Tremendous' increase in Gainesville College applications

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Gainesville College officials are reporting a "tremendous increase" in applications for admission to both the Gainesville and Athens area campuses this fall.

Gainesville College President Dr. Martha Nesbitt said applications are up between 25 and 50 percent.

"We're nervous about it to be honest with you. It's obviously really a good sign. We're increasing the number of classes we're going to offer and just hope that's going to be enough to take care of all the people who are admitted," Nesbitt said.

Because of the number of applications already on file, college officials are "strongly" encouraging people who have yet to apply for the Fall Semester to immediately submit an application, along with all required supporting documents.

Applicant files completed early will be processed for eligibility to pre-register for Fall Semester in mid-July.

To increase the likelihood of courses being available for fall, Gainesville College officials said it is important that individuals complete the application process by the June 20 deadline.

"We're gratified on the one hand, but we also want to make sure that we can provide the kind of education that we feel that has distinguished the college and that's why we're just encouraging our new applicants to get their information in early," Nesbitt said.
