CLEMSON, S.C. - Bobby Hussey, an assistant for former Clemson basketball coach Larry Shyatt, has been hospitalized in Charlotte for a blood clot in his brain.
Tim Bourret, the school's athletic spokesman, told The (Columbia) State that Hussey complained of persistent headaches while playing golf last Tuesday afternoon and went to the doctor. After follow-up tests on Friday, Hussey was immediately hospitalized.
Hussey, 63, was listed in serious condition at the Carolinas Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. Bourret thought Hussey's condition has improved after a weekend in the hospital.
Hussey, Virginia Tech's head coach from 1997-99, worked on Shyatt's staff for three seasons.
Hussey was not retained by new Clemson coach Oliver Purnell. But Shyatt said Hussey was scheduled to run two basketball camps in the Charlotte area next month.
