ATLANTA - Atlanta right-hander Paul Byrd plans to throw off the mound Wednesday for the first time since elbow surgery.
He had five bone chips and a bone spur removed April 17.

He expects to be ready for a rehab assignment in the minors in about 10 days, then get back in the rotation by late June.

He was expected to be the Braves' Number Four starter after signing a free-agent contract in the offseason.

He makes three million dollars this season, with a player's option for next year at seven million dollars.
Byrd might have to work out of the bullpen when he returns, since Atlanta already has five starters.
